Two days of rock n roll local democracy…

Notwestminster 2016
12th & 13th February
The Media Centre, Huddersfield

Want to help redesign local democracy? This free annual event, organised by Local Democracy Bytes and the Notwestminster network, is for everyone who has something positive to say about local democracy - and for anyone who is up for a challenge.

We’re bringing people together to create and share new ideas for doing local democracy at our second “We’re not in Westminster any more” event in February 2016 in Huddersfield. It’s a free event, organised by volunteers, and open to everyone who is interested in doing something to improve our local democracy.

Please come and take part in two days of making, thinking, discussing and creating.

Main event – Saturday 13th February 2016

Would you like to change one small thing (or lots of small things that together make a big difference) to make democracy work better for all of us? Our main event includes participant-led workshops, lightning talks, creative activities and lots of opportunities for making contact with others who are interested in local democracy and digital. The event will close with an Ideas Bazaar and drinks kindly supplied by Delib. You can find more details on the Notwestminster site and book tickets for Notwestminster 2016 here.

Local Democracy Maker Day – Friday 12th February 2016

Please come and take part in this practical day to help build a better local democracy. Ideal for digital makers, open data advocates any anyone with an interest in democracy. We will be working on three new design challenges, chosen by participants from our list of Design Challenges for Local Democracy.

We’ll talk about the issues and use data that’s already available to quickly prototype something based on our shared ideas. Our aim is to turn our discussions around local democracy and digital into some practical tools that we can all use to make democracy work better for us.

You can find out what we did at our 2015 Maker Day and book tickets for Local Democracy Maker Day 2016 here.

Notwestminster PechaKucha Night – Friday 12th February 2016

Join us for a special PechaKucha Night – a fast-paced evening full of exciting speakers and topics, with distinctly democratic flavour. Each speaker will talk for 6 minutes 40 seconds on a theme of their choosing, following a “20 slides for 20 seconds” format. Think of it as our hustings and come along to learn something new and be entertained. It’s a fun way to find out what inspires some of our local democracy advocates and to hear about people’s passions and interests. Free admission. Licensed bar. Everyone welcome.
