Midlands Peer Group launched

In April this year LocalGov Digital published the Local Government Digital Service Standard (LGDSS). The standard was inspired by the Digital by Default service standard for central government services created by the Government Digital Service (GDS) which has been adopted and is used around the world.  It was published following an event in February hosted and supported by the GDS and attended by councils around the country.

Now that the LGDSS is in place, we’re looking to identify how we could implement it within a local authority context, to help provide a common approach to delivering user-centred digital services. We’ve produced guidance for each point of the LGDSS and it is ready for us to start to use.  As well as using it within our own organisations, we have a great opportunity to collaborate and support each other through regional peer groups.

The first regional peer group meeting for London authorities was held successfully in early July.  The inaugural meeting of the Midlands regional peer group will be held in Coventry, and will be co-facilitated by Coventry City and Leicestershire County Councils.  We’re inviting people creating and delivering digital services at councils in the Midlands to discuss how to make better local services using the LGDSS, and how we can work together as neighbours to use our collective skills and experience to improve services across the region.

If you work for a council or local government partner organisation in the Midlands and would like to come along on 30 September 2016, 10 am to 1 pm please register your free attendance
